What is follitropin beta?

The FOLLISTIM AQ Cartridge contains follitropin beta (300 IU, 600 IU, 900 IU), which is a form of human follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) used to treat infertility in men and women. How do I record a day 1 dose of Follistim AQ?

Record the dose you have been prescribed for your injection. Subtract your Day 1 dose from the FOLLISTIM AQ Cartridge content (300, 600 or 900 international units). (See Figure 23.) This will give you the remaining FOLLISTIM AQ Cartridge content after the Day 1 dose is taken.

When should Follistim® AQ (follitropin beta) be discontinued?

It is recommended that Follistim® AQ (follitropin beta) administration be stopped if the ovaries become abnormally enlarged or abdominal pain occurs. Most OHSS occurs after treatment has been discontinued and reaches its maximum at about seven to ten days post-ovulation.

Ovarian torsion has been reported after treatment with Follistim AQ Cartridge and after intervention with other gonadotropins. This may be related to OHSS, pregnancy, previous abdominal surgery, past history of ovarian torsion, previous or current ovarian cyst and polycystic ovaries.
